In a landmark development for urban transportation in the Federal Capital Territory, Minister of the FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, officially commissioned the ultra-modern Mabushi Bus Terminal on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The event, attended by top dignitaries including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (represented by House Speaker Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas), marks a bold step toward reorganizing and modernizing public mobility in Abuja.
🚌 Private Sector to Manage Terminal Operations
In a strategic shift, the newly commissioned terminal will not be managed by the FCTA Transport Secretariat. Instead, Minister Wike announced that the facility will be concessioned to private operators for efficient, 24-hour operation.

“This terminal will not be operated by the Transport Secretariat. We will concession it to private operators who will run it efficiently,” Wike declared at the ceremony.
The facility is equipped with food courts, restrooms, entertainment facilities, and round-the-clock operations, providing Abuja commuters with a safe and organized transit experience.
🚦 Tackling Security and Road Congestion
The Minister emphasized that the terminal addresses more than transport needs—it’s a security and infrastructure solution.
“We are trying to eliminate the ‘one chance’ syndrome,” Wike explained. “With this terminal, commuters will know the drivers and the vehicles they are boarding, making their journeys safer.”
By creating designated pickup and drop-off points, the terminal is expected to reduce indiscriminate parking, illegal loading points, and traffic congestion across Abuja’s roads.
🏗️ A First for Abuja—and Just the Beginning
Despite being Nigeria’s capital, Abuja has never had a proper bus terminal until now.

“It is unfortunate that a city like Abuja has never had a bus terminal before. But we thank God that today, our prayers have been answered,” Wike said.
The Mabushi terminal, built by Planet Projects, features:
- Modern boarding and alighting points
- Spacious passenger waiting areas
- Commercial outlets and food vendors
- Security surveillance systems
- Parking bays for organized flow of vehicles
🔜 More Terminals on the Way
Wike also announced the status of two additional bus terminals:
- Kugbo Terminal – Fully completed and scheduled for commissioning next week
- Central Business District Terminal – Nearing completion and expected before the end of the year
New projects are also in the pipeline for Wuye, Bwari, and Kuje, as part of the FCT’s renewed commitment to modernize public transportation under the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
🏛️ A Vision Backed by Leadership
Minister Wike credited President Tinubu and the National Assembly for supporting the project through funding and policy support.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for your support in making this project a reality,” Wike said, before inviting the President to formally commission the terminal and declare it open for public use.
🚍 A New Era for Abuja Commuters
The launch of the Mabushi Bus Terminal represents a significant milestone in urban transport reform, aligning with global best practices and delivering on promises made under the Renewed Hope vision for infrastructure development.
With smart planning, private-sector collaboration, and a people-first approach, Abuja’s public transport system is undergoing a long-overdue transformation—and the Mabushi terminal is just the beginning.
