In an exciting development for Nigeria’s cultural landscape, the Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy is in advanced discussions with Yankee Entertainment to unveil the Abuja International Carnival in November 2024. The two parties met on Thursday in Abuja to finalize collaboration details and strategize on plans for this landmark event.
Hannatu Musa Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, expressed her excitement about the project, emphasizing its significance for the country’s cultural and creative economy. According to Musawa, the Abuja International Carnival is one of the top priority events for the ministry in the coming months.
A Carnival for Unity, Culture, and Economic Growth
In a statement from her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Nneka Ikem Anibeze, Musawa highlighted the alignment of the Abuja International Carnival with the ministry’s goals of promoting cultural diversity and supporting the creative economy in Nigeria.

“The Abuja International Carnival aims to boost cultural tourism and enhance Nigeria’s international profile. It will foster national unity, promote international cultural exchange, and provide economic opportunities for local artists and entrepreneurs,” Musawa stated.
She emphasized the importance of showcasing Nigeria as a leader in cultural promotion globally. The minister reflected on the previous administration’s role in launching the Abuja Carnival and expressed a strong desire to continue the initiative, focusing on ensuring its sustainability and long-term success.
“We knew that we needed to create something that would not only attract investments but also generate substantial tourism for our country,” Musawa added. “Today, we are working toward that goal, and I’m excited to finalize the collaboration details with Yankee Entertainment to make the Abuja International Carnival a resounding success.”
Yankee Entertainment’s Vision for the Abuja International Carnival
Earlier in the meeting, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Yankee Entertainment, Kehinde Adegbite (also known as Mallam Yankee), presented the vision and objectives of the carnival. Adegbite discussed the potential for the Abuja International Carnival to become a premier event showcasing Nigerian culture and creativity to a global audience.
Adegbite shared his experience organizing successful carnivals in the past, including the Ochacho Carnival, Ibeju Lekki Carnival, and Ojodu Carnival, and assured the minister that the Abuja International Carnival would be the largest and most spectacular carnival Nigeria has ever seen.
“The Abuja Carnival will be an international event. We intend to bring people from across the globe—those driven by culture and arts. Our goal is to make this carnival even bigger than the Calabar Carnival,” Adegbite said. “We aim to shake the world and make this an event that sets a new standard for cultural festivals.”
A Vibrant Platform for Nigerian Culture
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Ugochi Akudo-Nwosu, the Director of Entertainment and Creative Economy at the Ministry, thanked Musawa for her enthusiasm and commitment to developing the sector. She acknowledged the challenges faced by previous administrations, particularly the funding issues that hindered the success of the last Abuja Carnival, held in 2016. However, with the collaboration now in place, Akudo-Nwosu emphasized that 2024 is the perfect time to relaunch the carnival with renewed vigor.
“We appreciate the support and passion from the minister for the sector. The last Abuja Carnival was in 2016, and funding was a major challenge. But now, we are good to roll in 2024 because time is of the essence, and we’ve been absent for too long,” Akudo-Nwosu stated.
The carnival will serve as a vibrant platform for showcasing big artists, highlighting the creative talents of Nigeria, and promoting the work of the ministry in the Art, Culture, and Creative Economy. Akudo-Nwosu also shared that the carnival will feature a wide range of activities, such as street shows, musical concerts, a boat regatta, the traditional Durbar, a children’s fiesta, and exhibitions.
Celebrating Nigeria’s Culture on a Global Stage
“The Abuja International Carnival is set to be a major event on Nigeria’s cultural calendar,” said Akudo-Nwosu. “Together with Yankee Entertainment, we are committed to making this carnival a success. The event will take place in Abuja in November 2024 and promises to be a celebration of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant creative industries.”
With the final details now being set, the Abuja International Carnival promises to be an unforgettable experience that will showcase Nigeria’s cultural richness to the world and reinforce its position as a leader in the global cultural tourism space.
