In a bid to promote Nigeria’s music industry and foster talent development, Pretty Okafor, the national president of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN), has revealed ambitious plans to establish radio and television stations in Abuja, as part of a broader vision to make the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) a key entertainment hub.
Speaking during a facility tour of PMAN property in Abuja on Tuesday, Mr. Okafor disclosed that the association is developing a 2.5-hectare entertainment complex in the Kukwaba District. This will include creative centers, event spaces, and talent development platforms.

Key Highlights of PMAN’s Plans:
- Radio and TV Stations: As part of their vision, PMAN is set to establish flagship radio and TV stations in Abuja, aiming to offer new avenues for music exposure and promotion. According to Okafor, these stations will be equipped with the best facilities in Africa, providing an accessible platform for artists to gain exposure without the need for payola.
- Music Schools: PMAN is also planning the creation of two specialized music schools. One will focus on business music education, and the other will offer rudimentary music training. These schools will provide a nurturing environment for emerging musicians to hone their talents.
- Nationwide Expansion: Okafor emphasized that while PMAN’s headquarters is located in Lagos, the association plans to roll out similar projects across the country, with plans to expand to Kaduna, Jos, Enugu, Rivers, and other geopolitical zones. This will further strengthen the association’s mission to support musicians and grow the music industry.
- PMAN Radio & TV in Abuja: The new stations will operate from the FCT, with the goal of expanding to other regions. The plan is part of PMAN’s long-term vision to create a one-stop-shop entertainment hub for Nigeria’s music industry.
- International Exposure: PMAN is also championing international initiatives, including the PMAN Afrobeat Music Festival, which was held in Spain in 2024. This festival aims to expose Nigerian music talents to global audiences, with plans for further international engagements in the coming years.
Support from PMAN Members
Sydney Asowari, governor of the FCT chapter of PMAN, commended Mr. Okafor and the National Executive Committee (NEC) for their leadership and these innovative initiatives. He called for unity among PMAN members and urged them to focus on the collective progress of the association.
“We are one united PMAN,” Asowari said. “There is no rancour whatsoever. Together, we can achieve more for the music industry.”
The PMAN leadership continues to focus on creating opportunities for Nigerian musicians, both domestically and internationally, ensuring that the country’s rich musical heritage remains a central element of the global music scene.
